Walker Agreement

Last updated: 27 July 2026

This agreement is between ONLYPAWS (PTY) LTD (2026/592019/07), trading as OnlyPaws ("OnlyPaws"), and you, the walker. It applies in addition to the Terms of Service. Where the two conflict on a walker-specific point, this agreement applies.

1. You are self-employed

You are an independent contractor. You are not an employee, worker, agent or partner of OnlyPaws, and nothing here creates an employment relationship.

Specifically:

  • You choose when to work. There are no shifts, no minimum hours and no obligation to be online. Going offline for any length of time is not a breach of anything.
  • You choose which walks to accept. Declining requests carries no penalty.
  • You decide how to carry out a walk, within the law, the owner's instructions and this agreement. We do not direct your route, pace or method.
  • You may work for anyone else, including competitors, at any time.
  • You provide your own equipment, including your phone, data and anything you use on a walk.

2. Tax and your own affairs

You are responsible for your own income tax, provisional tax, and any VAT registration if your turnover requires it. OnlyPaws does not deduct PAYE or UIF and does not contribute to any fund on your behalf.

You are responsible for your own retirement, medical and disability arrangements.

3. Getting approved

Before you can accept walks you must complete every step in section 4 of the Terms of Service: identity verification, liveness check, face match, proof of residence, two contactable references, and manual approval by a person at OnlyPaws. You must also have a profile photo and a working phone number on your account.

Everything you give us must be true and yours. Submitting another person's identity document, another person's proof of address, or fabricated references will end your account permanently and may be reported to the authorities.

Approval is at our discretion. We may decline an application, and we are not obliged to give reasons beyond what the law requires.

4. What you commit to on a walk

  • Collect and return the dog at the agreed place, and hand it back to the owner or to whoever the owner has nominated. Never leave a dog unattended, tied up outside a shop, or in a vehicle.
  • Keep the dog on a lead unless the owner has expressly agreed otherwise in writing in the app and it is lawful where you are walking.
  • Start and end the walk in the app, so the owner can follow along and receives the summary. Do not start a walk you have not begun or end one you have not finished.
  • Do not pass the walk to anyone else. The owner chose you.
  • Tell the owner immediately if the dog is injured, becomes ill, escapes, bites, or is involved in any incident — and report it through the app so it reaches us too.
  • In a veterinary emergency, act reasonably to get the dog treated and contact the owner as soon as you safely can. You do not have authority to approve costly treatment on the owner's behalf.
  • Do not take a dog you cannot physically control, and do not accept a walk where the description suggests a dog is beyond your ability or experience. Declining is always the right call.
  • Follow the by-laws that apply where you are walking, including leashing and fouling rules. Pick up after the dog.
  • Photos and videos you send during a walk go to that dog's owner and stay inside the app. Send updates of the dog, not of people. Do not photograph the inside of anyone's home, and do not post anything from a walk anywhere else. Keep the camera out when you are collecting or dropping off.

5. Your obligations to the owner's privacy

You will often learn things you would not otherwise know: where someone lives, when their home is empty, sometimes a gate code or where a key is kept.

Use that information only to carry out the walk. Do not record it elsewhere, do not share it with anyone, and do not return to a property except to carry out an agreed walk. Misuse of this information will end your account and may be a criminal offence.

Keep contact with owners inside the app.

6. Insurance — read this

OnlyPaws provides no insurance cover of any kind for you or for anything that happens on a walk.

You are not covered by any OnlyPaws policy for injury to yourself, injury you cause to another person, injury to or death of a dog in your care, or damage to property.

If a dog in your care bites someone, or is hurt while with you, you may be personally liable, and there is no policy behind you. We strongly recommend you obtain your own public liability cover. We do not currently require proof of it, and the fact that we do not require it is not a suggestion that you do not need it.

7. Payment

Payments are not yet processed through OnlyPaws. For now, you arrange payment with the owner directly.

Tips recorded in the app are an indication of intent only and have not been collected or paid to you. When payments launch we will give you the commission rate, the payout schedule and the mechanics in writing before anything changes.

8. Your indemnity

You indemnify OnlyPaws against claims, losses and costs arising from:

  • your negligence or intentional misconduct during a walk
  • your breach of this agreement or of the Terms of Service
  • your misuse of an owner's personal information or property access
  • any claim that you were an employee, where that claim arises from you misrepresenting your status

This does not apply to the extent a claim arises from our own gross negligence or intentional misconduct.

9. Suspension and removal

We may suspend or remove you from the platform, at our discretion and without notice where safety requires it, if:

  • you breach this agreement or the Terms of Service
  • we receive credible reports about a dog's welfare or a person's safety
  • your verification is found to be false or expires
  • your ratings or conduct fall below a standard we consider acceptable

You can stop walking and close your account at any time, provided you complete or properly cancel any walk you have already accepted.

10. General

This agreement is governed by South African law.

We may update it. For material changes we will give reasonable advance notice, and continuing to accept walks after the change takes effect means you accept it.

If any provision is unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
